Syria
Syria is one of the Arab countries located in the north-west of the continent of Asia, bordered on the north by the State of Turkey, on the eastern side of the State of Iraq, bordered by Jordan and Palestine from the south-west, while on the west is bordered by Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea.
The State of Syria is distinguished by its status and its important position for both trade and transport linking the West and the East.
Syria is characterized by its mild climate and warm climate, where the Mediterranean climate, characterized by moderate rain in the winter, and dry climate in the summer.
Topography of Syria
Syria is divided geographically into several regions, namely:
Mountainous Regions: It contains many mountains and mountain ranges stretching north and south of Syria, parallel to the Mediterranean Sea.
Coastal areas: The area that is confined between mountains and the sea.
The Bedouin area: It is all the plains located in the south-east of Syria, specifically on the Iraqi and Jordanian borders, in addition to the existence of many mountain ranges up to 2800 meters above sea level.
The interior areas: The so-called plains areas. These areas include many plains such as Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Daraa and Hama.
The most important monuments in Syria
Damascus Castle: is located in the capital Damascus. Its shape is like a rectangle. It has three gates and 12 towers. It is surrounded by a trench with a width of about 20 meters.
Fort Castle : This castle is located in the city of Homs, known as the castle of the Kurds; built in 1031.
Beit Durra Church: also called Dora Urobus, because of the name of the area in which it is located, it had had the oldest graphic depiction of Christ. The painting is at Yale University in New York now.
Umayyad Mosque: It is located in the center of the old city. The mosque was originally a market became a temple in the first century AD by Rammanyan, then it became a church.
When the Muslims entered Damascus they divided the church into two sections:mosque and church. Al-Waleed ibn Abd al-Malik turned it into a mosque, and it was completely rebuilt.
It is now the fourth largest mosque in the history of Islam after Al- Haram mosque, Medina mosque and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Ports in Syria
Syria is known for its great position, as it links the countries of the Middle East to the West. This has facilitated trade between them, as well as facilitating the import and export movement. Syria has two ports: Tartous Port and Lattakia Port.
