It rises about 750 meters from the Mediterranean Sea level and about 1150 meters from the Dead Sea.
The city is characterized by an average climate where the winter is cold, the summer is dry and hot, and the snow sometimes falls on the city in winter. January is the coldest month in the city, while July and August are the hottest months in the city.

After the occupation of the city by Israel, many settlements were built and hundreds of Palestinian lands were confiscated in East Jerusalem. The Israeli occupation established a large wall in 2002 separating the Palestinian lands from each other.
As for West Jerusalem, Israel destroyed the Palestinian villages and established the Zionist settlements on them and from these villages: Ein Karem, Deir Yassin, Qastal, Malahah, and Lifta.
